Night photography isn’t really my thing, so Elke, this week’s host for Monochrome Madness, provided me with a real challenge when she proposed Night time as her theme.
Unsurprisingly, towns and cities provided me with a few ideas. Let’s go on a quick tour. Let’s visit Albania, England, Spain, France, South Korea and Poland…

Really though, Country Mouse prefers to dodge big cities. My featured photo is of the moon as darkness fell recently, while the photo below was taken just at the end of the road.

Cityscapes can look quite dramatic in monochrome at night although it’s the light bouncing off those cobbles that I particularly like.

For someone who doesn’t think this is her thing, you have done really well Margaret. I love that cathedral shot and the cobblestone lane, just brilliant.

Thanks. I was pleased wit the cathedral shot too, especially as it was just a quick point-and-shoot with my mobile.

I would have to choose Gdansk as a favourite, as I’ll be there in September, Margaret, but I really like the Albanian shot too, and the damp alleyway xx

Oh thanks Jo. That’s half of them, at least! Enjoy Gdansk. We certainly did.

Dad visited once, before being reunited with the family. Now it transpires that I have a nephew working there. Strange world xx

Gosh. I have no means of tracing any family remnants so lucky you!

They found us, Margaret, so Dad was truly blessed in his later years. I never went looking and was overwhelmed at the Polish response. I still am! xx

That’s so lucky. I’ve covered my tracks too much, beginning with our losing the name Rzepecki when I was about 8.

Not a common name? I presume you’ve tried to find others? X

I gather it’s nearly as common as Smith is here! So people told us when we were there.

I’m sorry. I don’t recollect seeing it in the several cemeteries I visited in Poland xx

Of course I have zero idea, just relied on a couple of casual conversations. But I did see one newspaper headline while we were there mentioning that very surname! xx

I hope they were a reputable person! Just joking, darlin. I wish I could share mine with you xx

Monochrome nightscapes from cities are something I always find attractive. Yours are lovely, specially that mildly misty cobbled lane. But the real killer is the countryside in moonlight.

You might guess that’s my favourite too. Thanks so much.

you have lovely images here to celebrate night photography. I love the cobblestone. But really I love them all.

Oh thanks Dawn. It’s so encouraging to have these kinds of comment as night photography is an area I find really difficult.

I agree cities tend to work best for night photography – I love the textures of the cobbles in your Arras shot in particular 🙂 Also the symmetry of the cathedral in Korçë. And your moon close-up is also really good!

Luckily if you don’t get a good night shot, you always have another chance in twenty-four hours. 🙂 They all look great to me. I like the end of the road one too.

Ah thank you. That shot seems to be getting quite a few votes. And what an excellent philosophy – There’s always tomorrow night!

I live in an area where there is too much light for night time sky photography and I don’t try hard enough with a real camera to figure it out… but I have captured a few good images with my phone camera…. you always inspire me with your photographs and black and white is the perfect medium for a night time shot. Keep making this days count, peace.

Thanks so much Clay. Too much light at night? That’s not good. We’re lucky here with little light pollution. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Oh my Margaret, there’s so much to like in these images. I especially like the way the light hits the cobblestones, the church and the street scene with the Ferris wheel.

Ah, thanks so much Anne. Perhaps I need to go out at night more with my camera.

I like the cobblestones best, closely followed by the reflections in Seville. I’m a Town Mouse so prefer the urban shots!

Your city scapes are definitely worth a look. I particularly like the bridge with the reflections on the water. But your moon with the single tree is fabulous.
