If you’re ever near Middlesbrough, and fancy a breezy walk on an RSPB reserve, you could do worse than go to Saltholme. It’s modest enough to explore in an afternoon, and besides, there’s helpful signage to prevent your getting lost.

  11. A great find of a sign! Might try that here when we have Spanish day trippers walking the wrong way through our finca. Totally wrong direction but perhaps they are just nosy. I love the backdrop which shows how nature and humans can live close together.

  17. I have family in this part of the world. And it’s where my Glaswegian grandparents were based until they emigrated to Oz 70 years ago. My dad was 6.
