Urban Sweden

Many of you know about our trip to Sweden earlier this year. We Country Mice found much that was accessible in the Swedish towns we visited. Pedestrians came first, bikes second, and motorists toed the line and halted to let either of the above pass in front of them. So meandering in Malmö, going round Gothenburg, sauntering in Stockholm, knocking around Kalmar, these are a few of the sights we saw on the urban paths we choose, totally unbothered by passing traffic. There was none..

And finally, here we are kicking our heels in Kalmar, within metres of the railway station, the university and a busy shopping mall. Oh, and a fine castle which you’ve already seen. My kind of urban landscape.

  3. They seem very civilised when they’re here in Portugal, Margaret, and I know that you were impressed by Sweden and its people. I’d like a ‘look see’ too. Pedestrians and cyclists are given priority on the roads here in Portugal. Some thing that always amazed us when we first came here. These days you have to walk with a little more caution because motorists from other countries are not always so considerate xx

  6. A great mix of old and new in your urban landscapes from Sweden 🙂 I especially love that twisty building among the cranes in Gothenburg, and the very different old waterfront in Stockholm 🙂
