Suddenly, it’s almost the end of November. Suddenly, I have too many Shadows to cram into NovemberShadows. But these two demanded their five minutes of fame.
First, a fossicking godwit:

And next, a young herring gull. I hope he really is tidying the beach, and not regarding that plastic bottle top as his next meal.

Everywhere you look, and probably all next month too, you’ll be seeing shadows, Margaret. I do like Godwits xx

So do I. And yes, we’re all being pursued by shadows just now. xx

great birding images – but aargh on us humans and plastic

I know. I once decided to do a bit of a beach clean on an apparently pristine beach. Within minutes I had a bag of minute crumbs of plastic, and bottle tops and the like. It was clearly all a bit pointless, and far too late.

it is scary how much is out there, but even tiny clean ups make a difference. So good on you xx

He got his 5 minutes of fame. His companions have not. 😒

I love it. Someone commented the other day too, so I used it again, just for her!

I love the second one – great light and the red really adds to the image. And I naively and happily thought he’d found a biscuit!

I expect he did too! Thanks Debbie.

When fossicking godwit flashed up initially I really did not read it correctly🫢. I like his pal better anyway, but share the concern about the bottle top.

You like the herring gull more than the lovely godwit? Fossicking weird you are!!

Two lovely birds. I wish we humans didn’t leave our rubbish for them to encounter though!

Juveniles often play drop and catch with such objects, and they also decorate their nests with plastic!

Chidren will be children, whatever species they are!

Yes, and dare I say that many of the male variety never stop being children!

Both great shots, especially the gull, but I do hope he didn’t try to eat that bottle top!

Me too Sarah. Gulls don’t go in for discretion, I think.

I admire your skill in photography and being able to identify a godwit. Wading birds are beyond my ken.

This photo was taken at Slimbridge. They were properly labelled. I’d have been stuck before that.

Love that second shot. I also love “a fossicking godwit.” I think it would be a perfect thing to call someone and, at least here, no one would know what it meant and assume the worst! 🤣🤣🤣

Haha! Excellent point! I think you’re definitely not ‘a fossicking godwit’.
