(Nearly) Silent Sunday

Look what I spotted while strolling through the village yesterday. And us int’ Frozzen North an’ all.

Silent Sunday.

PS. I’m aware that on mobile phones (certainly Android ones anyway) the featured photo never displays to readers. Is there a way of fixing this? Either as a poster, who would prefer their photo to be visible, or as a reader of the posts of others? I’ve tried to research this, with no success.

      1. Of course it’s up-cheering. But a bit worrying too. The seasons are all to pot, and warm winters like this aren’t good for plants that require a good dose of frost to stay healthy, and kill off over-wintering bugs.

  1. We had a very cold early December with temps well below freezing, but now it’s been over freezing for over a week and the yard is muddy with the dogs tracking it inside on their paws. No sign of early blooms though, not yet! Heading up north later this morning and will look around to see what’s happening. Enjoy those walks, Mother Nature has another side, too.

      1. I took a look at your site on my phone (I’ve always used a laptop before) and I can see your featured photos. So it is not a setup for wordpress that needs to be understood, but the setup of the browser on your phone.

  2. Margaret, I got this on my android well und truly. Still think it’s unhealthy for nature to wake up this early. And especially this early up north where you live. But it’s balm to the flower-hungry heart.

    1. That’s alarming. I have the featured photo problem a lot when reading people’s posts on my phone, but never on my laptop. I have tried – unsuccessfully – solving it. I think I’ll have to chat to the Happiness Engineers.

  3. Pretty, but a worrying sign that our seasons are getting very muddled. I saw a piece on the news yesterday (based on a National Trust press release I think) which said we’re heading towards a sort of mild grey nothingness for much of the year 😦

I’m not sure if it’s your featured image or not, but what I see here, using my laptop, is a collage of four flowers photos, with no other image featured above it. And I see exactly the same on my Android phone.

  4. That’s helpful Sarah. You are seeing what’s intended. Others are seeing – nowt. I really shall have to get to the bottom of this. I thought it might be Android users who had the problem, but that’s not it then. *sigh*. Also gloomy news about the weather…

      1. Just opened my email and there’s a post there with a feature photo which I don’t see till I open up the blog. I also don’t always see feature photos in the summary list in Feedly, which I use for most blogs, until I open up the full post. So things vary a lot, it might be a mixture of themes and reading tool. My own theme has a feature option but it doesn’t place it above the post like yours, it just determines which photo is used for the thumbnail. In other words, it’s complicated! Not sure you’ll get a satisfactory answer.

      2. Thanks fot that. Just sorting our lives out for a month’s absence with Daughter in Spain, so this isn’t the moment to sort this out. Especially with 70 mph winds on the Channel on sailing day ….

  5. A love flower collection, Margaret. I know exactly what you are experiencing the photos. I find that I have to place the photo in the main body of the post to ensure that everyone sees it immediately.

  6. I can’t see the photo on my old iPhone. I don’t see why a featured photo shouldn’t show. I would prefer that as if post is short and one photo then why not see it immediately. I hate the time it takes to visit the site and if off jetpack takes more time to like/ comment. I think these featured photos should show as for me it is a key part of the post. Happy New Year!!!

  7. Beautiful! Spring not far away? We have nothing here so far – except my Agapanthus has decided to send up a stem 40cm in the air, letting the bud have a good look at the glasshouse…
