When we lived in France, the route of the Tour de France twice passed our house. Before the cyclists whizz past, there’s the publicity caravan, an unending stream of advertisers tossing out toys and trinkets to the expectant crowds waiting for the cyclists to pass. Here’s one ….

Never seen it in France but have seen it in Brighton. They go so fast – don’t recall any ducks on top though as they zoomed past the pavilion!

Ah, the advertisers don’t zoom. They want you to notice what they’re promoting!

oh I meant the cyclists – don’t think the advertisers came over to England that first time the Tour visited

After they throw the ducks out do they send you a bill?

Yes!! The Tour has been past here too and I was surprised how much of an event it was. Roads are full of camper vans for a full two days beforehand, so many advertisers and then the end of day party with music and so many freebies!

It’s certainly a distraction from everyday routines!

And to think, when I watch races on television, I have seen the caravan of advertisers … but I am not surprised that there is.

It’s quite fun, and it passes the time till the race comes past!

I love that. No heraldic clap trap. A duck. Wonderful.

No chance on the day the race went past. And why would you even want to? I’m no cycling fan, but it was such fun.

Hm. Nothing says “premier bicycle race” quite like a rubber duck on a van roof … 😉😂

It is – fun, friendship and frivolity – unless you’re one of the cyclists …

That wouldn’t work for a swan up top would it? 😁
