We went for a walk in Wharfedale yesterday. We saw a verdant landscape.
These handsome young stags saw their daily meal.

They are. And they’re just youngsters. They’re going to be finding their places in the pecking order soon.

Ah, the rutting season won’t be so far away…(where is this year getting to)? These youngsters will soon learn where their place is in the herd.

Amazing how similar landscapes can be. If you told, this was Germany, I’d have believed you. 🙂

Yes, it’s true. We have some landscapes very much in common. You have better mountains though!

Margaret, are the stags wild? Stunning photos either way!

Not really. They live on the Harewood Estate. This means however that they have 1000 acres to call their own. They were wonderfully handsome, and allowed us to get reasonably close.

I don’t think they notice the fences.

Nicely “captured” stags.
And that beautiful Yorkshire dale…

Two wonderful shots. It’s amazing to see the horns – they could do some damage with those.

And they will, I guess, when striving to become Top Stag.

Although those youngsters were feeding together, in general I find the males more distant, and aloof looking somehow. It’s probably all in my mind!

How magnificent – and nice to see the stags getting a square meal too.

It always astonished me that so many creatures can subsist on grass. I may love a good salad, but lettuce three times a day wouldn’t do much for me!
