London friends – help me please.  I took this photo of a statue of a workman and his pigeon chum somewhere near the Tower of London.  Where?  Who?  What?

  1. I’m pretty sure he’s ‘Statue to the Unknown Building Worker’ on Tower Hill. He carries a spirit level and represents the thousand or so workers who die each year in accidents on UK building sites; a wreath is laid on him every year on International Workers’ Day with a suitable few words and a two-minute silence. He was only unveiled (by Ken Livingstone) in 2006. I’ll double-check next time I go to Fenchurch Street station via Tower Hill, but meanwhile you can google him.
