It used to be the rubbish left behind by visitors that they went after. But then they got smart and went for the food before it was discarded

I saw two herring gulls eyeing up two hapless diners sitting on a bench that day. I never found out if the humans got to finish their meal – but not in peace, cetainly..

We were eating fish&chips in Apollo Bay. I had a few chips left in the cardboard container when two gulls swooped in and flew off with it!

SOME TIME AGO I TOOK THE WATER TAXI WITH MY COUSIN TO VISIT VARIOUS PORTS ALONG THE SE COAST OF FL AND WE WERE READY FOR LUNCH HOWEVER PACKETS OF SUGAR, ETC. WERE GIVEN AFTER WE SAT DOWN TO EAT SINCE BIRDS WERE SWOOPING DOWN AND STEALING THEM. THE YOUNGSTERS ARE TAUGHT WELL TO DO THE SAME!!!!

Not only do they steal food (including a sausage roll from a toddler’s hand) but they make the most awful racket and mess. Fortunately here they mostly stay in the fields when they have had enough of St Ives. A really nice photo of him with the harbour background.

We were at the San Diago Aquarium when a seagull swooped down and stole my daughter’s foot long frankfurter! She was left holding an empty bun!! We had to buy her another one.
