The London Team is with us this week, so all my shots are family ones, and in Glorious Techicolor. So here are a few shots from my last visit to London itself, taken along the Thames Path near Woolwich.

I love my trips to London, generally avoiding Tourist Central and getting into the backwaters and ginnels.

I worked for the Press Association many years ago and I used to fly from Leeds Bradford to Heathrow several times a month. Didn’t see as much as I would have liked, but occasionally I got let out for a few hours to ‘look around’.

It’s not easy with central London being really rather far from Heathrow. And I guess you have no opprtunities – or wish – to go now.

Only good thing was a 40 minute flight back 🙂

I have had several cameras in the last 70 years and never did know the difference between chrome, ectachrome, monochrome film…hell my camera now don’t even use film 🙂{I guess ectichrome was good for slides but after 1980 who used slides ?}

Indeed! And all that jargon is well above my paygrade too.

I had a secret clearance in the US Navy in the 70”s and have never heard of any of this 👀❓

Hadn’t thought of how industrial the Thames looks. Still, you did get a cormorant

Less industrial now than it was in my childhood. But much of the older industrial sites have been – often successfully – repurposed.

The Thames looks a lot cleaner in black and white!

Great monochromes of your Thames meanderings! I do miss my London wandering…. Ah well, perhaps I should dig out some images from a few years prior to lockdown and convert them to B&W

Those flood barrier thingies or however they’re called look so utopian. Great shots!

They’re quite a sight. And I hope still fit for purpose in these unpredictable times.

My parents lived in Woolwich for a short time after the war when there was such an acute housing shortage. The flood barriers weren’t there then, and their house was flooded. The queen (mother) did the obligatory tour and paid a visit, and did not recognise my mother who had been presented to her at one of the garden parties that replaced being presented at court after the war. IMO the only good thing about such tours by dignitaries is that authorities have to get at least some of the devastation cleaned up so that it’s fit for the visitors to see.

Fair point, Lisa. And I’ve only visited Woolwich a couple of times of sorties to the Thames Path, but it seems to be a community worth exploring further.

These are amazing Margaret. I’ve been to London, but never left the airport. It has always seemed like a great city to photograph, and your photos make me wish I had had the chance.

Grey suit land perhaps! But yes, definitely makes for good photos and a sense of structures too.

I love monochrome pictures. I think that I focus more on the details and the mood with them, than when looking at very colorful photos.
