something beginning with H. That’s what Sarah of Travel with Me wants from us today for Leanne’s Monochrome Madness.
Well, in among all the other acts, Ripon’s Theatre Festival included a few sets of Morris dancers – just as likely to be women as men these days. And they all flaunt terrific Headgear on their Heads. I mean… Hats. Here are a couple: and including two more in the featured photo.

Horses. I won’t show you show-jumpers, or mares with their foals in bucolic meadows. Here’s one waiting patiently for the 159 in Masham one evening as we were on our way to Photo Club. The last bus had left an hour and a half before. In truth, she was on the way to Appleby Horse Fair, an event that. although centuries old, isn’t as long-established as Morris dancing. This horse was one of dozens of horses and vardoes we see making their slow way there in the weeks before.

Let’s continue to be a little Olde Worlde. Here’s a House spotted last year in Vitré in Brittany, a town which boasts almost no other housing style.

Or shall we go for a little Hut in the grounds of Sleningford Old Hall, or a tiny House, fairies-for-the-use-of, in Nidd Hall?

Fairies make me think of other out-of this world creatures, as seen at Hallowe’en.

Not frightened yet? I can sort that out. Here’s the Hideous Head of a Gegant in Premià de Mar , and a Haunting Harridan from the Puppet Museum in Cádiz.

I don’t want to leave you quivering though. Let’s go back to Morris Dancing and Hats of course, and let the Slubbing Billys cheer you up. In black and white, and in Glorious Technicolor With Red Highlights for Becky’s #SimplyRed Squares.

Oh so many Hs! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And the square is a Happy Square.

It’s a tossup between the Brittany house and the chaps in the headgear for me. I can’t help feeling that what looks like a coffee should be a pint!

It WAS a bit early for a pint! And that house – imagine a whole town full! Worth a detour …

What a fantastic selection of Hs! I especially love the horse at the bus stop ( 😂 ) and the Hideous Head and Haunting Harridan (just because they’re so unusual!) Also, your use of the slider for the last shot is perfect, a perfect way to double-up with Red Squares 🙂

Heaps of Hs! Hintriguing and hattractive.

Nicely woven tale Margaret. The horse at the bus stop is my favourite. You could have stopped at the horror, Morris Dancing isn’t a favourite of mine

Nor mine Brian, though as I get older, I’m getting used to it, and even appreciate the skill. You see Morros dancers in Australia?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes the are troupes of Morris dancers around the place who emerge at festivals

I like ’emerge’. It says it all about your views on Morris dancers!

What a wonderful hotchpotch! You want it a bit more stylish: What an heterogenous post! Or rather, what a wonderful heterogenous post with non-homogenous wonderful photos!

Highlighting H is horrendously hard. You have to hand it to Sarah. It was a hurdle. Thanks!

So many Happy Hs. You are such a clever lady. I like them all, but the black and white version of the last photo is excellent. So crisp and sharp – I prefer it to the colour version, but then you wouldn’t be eligible for the Reds 😍

Great fun, Margaret! I love your Morris dancers hats. I’d love to kick up my heels like that. And those houses in Brittany are ideal candidates for black and white xx

Those houses in Brittany were all the colours of the rainbow. Black and white need not apply. No Morris dancer would want me on the team. I only seem to have left feet. xx

Two matching ones? The timber converts well to mono, doesn’t it? xx

Nothing matches. It’s a glorious hotch potch. But they work in mono too. xx

Ah, very cunning! I wondered if you were going to sneak red in somewhere. I think that’s the same bus stop we photographed last week just because it looked pretty with a little garden and the town crest in front. No horses though. My overall favourite is the chaps in hats in the header. They look like fun. The women all seem to be taking it very seriously.

Ah! It’s quite fun when you can identify features in a place you barely know. The men were snapped early on in the day. By the time the women were photographed, they’d been at it for hours. They tell me those wooden soled clogs ain’t comfy.

Morris Men were often renowned for their drinking. I wonder if the ladies carry on the tradition?
