Ripon Theatre Festival this last weekend: and Saturday and Sunday brought street performances and spectacles all over town. Best of all was that despite the incessant rain and intermittent thunder we were threatened with, not a drop fell while we were all out and about enjoying ourselves (and performing too, in the case of choirs like mine). But. What a cheek! Hardly anyone was decked out in red! I’m relying on photos from previous years to plug the Red Gap.

For Becky’s #Simply Red.
I’m distracted from the red by that flamingo, trying to imagine the contortions under the feathers and the stamina of that arm. Kudos!

Quite. It was my job to be his ‘minder’, and I could see the strain it put his back under – and he was into his 50s, so no spring – er – emu.

Makes me wince to think about it.

I had the same thought! It looks mightily uncomfortable.

Best not to think too hard about this. Too uncomfortable.

Glad you stayed dry and obviously had a good time! English street theatre is the equal of Portuguese processions, isn’t it? Both you and Tish showing it off xx

Yep, we can all show our inhabitants a good time in our own way.

This looks like a fun ‘do’ too.

We can obviously both put on a good show, BC & R.

Jings! I think I’ve just done my back in trying to do that ostrich/emu thing…. Wow!

Quite. Not one to add to your repertoire then?

Oh, Margaret, if I were forty years younger… then possibly maybe!

It would age you 40 years in a single day.

Sounds like a good, And thankfully dry, time was had by all….But emu Person looks to have had a very contorted time and my back hurts just thinking about it. Well done them.

That emu was amazing. How long did that person have to stay doubled up like that? You were lucky with the rain holding off

So what was the de rigeur colour this year?

It’s not like that. Every colour plays its part, but red seemed somehow to confne itself to ribands and detailing.

That emu is both amazing and rather disconcerting! As others have said, I’m wondering what contortions he had to put himself through!

He was shattered by the end. I hope he had a good osteopath.

Yes, hope so – he would probably need it!

What a lively glimpse into the Ripon Theatre Festival, Margaret! I’m glad the skies held off and allowed everyone to enjoy the festivities—and how wonderful that your choir took part! Thank you for bringing these local moments to life so beautifully.

Looks like so much fun. But I am with the others’ sentiments about the “flamingo” person…poor thing!
