Poppy meant no harm. She was a placid and amiable dog. MiMi trusts nobody, least of all A Dog. Poppy (who sadly is no more) stood at a respectful distance, wondering what to do. MiMi took to the garden bench, arched her back, fluffed up her fur, and hissed. This scene went on for about twenty minutes, till Poppy got bored, and sloped off .

For Jude’s Bench Challenge.
Such patience! Mimi looks like our dear departed Squeaker.

Squeaker eh? Did s/he?

Shs did. When she was rescued she was so skinny we called her Pipsqueak but that soon changed and she became Squeaker.

Oh, that’s a heartwarming tale for early on a Sunday. MiMi is a rescue too. She was born in our landlady’s garden shed to a stray. The mother made a good choice, as our landlady, a true Cat Lady, made sure each kitten went to a good home. Then mum disappeared, presumably to her former existence.

How lovely! Rescue’s the best way, isn’t it. I named our current one Mischief – she’s taken the idea of nominative determinison to heart.

Your fault then. What’s wrong with Meek? Though Mischief is definitely more fun!

Easy to picture the scene, but what was I thinking? At first glance, I read A Dog, a Cat, a Bench and Stroganoff!

Well! Animals can be fun to watch, as indeed at times, can humans……

I needed patience that day. Which animals tend to have in spades. Me? Not so much.

Absolutely. MiMi would have won, hands down.

Ah, yes, a brilliant face off. When I lived in SA we had a variety of cats, some fostered, others strays and then our own. Bert (a foster cat whilst his humans were in London for a year) dealt with our dog by slapping her across the face, first one side then the other. She never bothered him again!

Cats always win these stand-offs I think.

No clear winner….that’s the way it used to be when we had 3 cats and one poor dog. Most of the time anyway. I’m sorry Poppy is no longer with you in this world…though still in your heart, which is something anyway.

Se wasn’t our dog, but our neighbour’s. But we loved her. Such a sweet-natured animal. As far as staring out contests go, MiMi always wins!

Poppy looks like such a good dog. Bless her. My dogs go crazy when they see a cat. As far as they are concerned, cats are the archenemy and need to be eliminated!

What is life, if full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as Mimi and Poppy…🐾😹

A classic story 🙂 And as so often, the dog gave up first!

Oh, Poppy was the best. So sad, her end – dementia and lots of discomfort.

Many years ago I had a Siamese cat named Samwise, who was a valiant protector of our home. One day, I heard a huge racket outside my window. Samwise had taken on a huge dog who had entered our garden. Needless to say, Samwise won the day. Cats have the heart of lions!! LOL!!

Of COURSE Samwise won! Cats generally do!

We had one cat who would take on labradors and another who was even terrified of other cats. I used to marvel how different creatures could be, even with brains the size of a walnut.

Oh, be fair! Whatever actual size their brains are, they seem able to use them to good effect – especially working out who has the power to deliver a decent meal or two. Wasn’t Scaredy-cat quite unusual? They’re pretty good at standing their corner usually.

She wasn’t scared of people, just cats. The other one battered cats and took on dogs but was nervous of people. So different!
