We drove from Arras to Beaune today, having seen almost nothing of Arras, because my evening stroll yesterday in atrocious rain left me with a coat I actually had to wring out. Today was little better. In fact the vanishing point on the motorway planned as today’s contribution vanished itself in a welter of sleet, rain, fog and thoroughly English style bad weather.

Anyway, later we spotted some (sorry to be pretentious, but I genuinely can’t remember the English word) geometric éoliennes. Here.

So that’s two squares today, and the weather improves tomorrow! We hope …

I hate driving in that weather. Do you take it in turns?

Oh Margaret – this has been our weather over Christmas. The winds were so high that the ferry service on Christmas Day between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island was cancelled. I am so proud of you walking and braving the weather!!!

Has to be done, Rebecca. Can’t miss too many chances.

Those look like wind turbines to me. I like the French word for them though. In Spanish they are aerogeneradors and they are everywhere!

Of course! Silly me! Thanks.

I bet you cannot wait for sunny Spain! There must be an easier way to do this. Heroic squares! X

I daresn’t say that we’re expecting rain on Sunday. But only for 1 day and it’s been sunny for weeks x̌x

Thanks. It was so bad it was almost good ….

I think you should stick with the French term. Much more pleasing than turbine. Hope the weather improves for you soon,

gosh, that’s beyond awful – so glad you are safe, and that you can now see the joy in the geometrics

Does look pretty grim. But weather improved here today and the wintry sun so pretty when it finally comes out. Yes, tough driving in such weather. Safe journeys.

I thought a man was hanging off one of the turbine blades. Turned out to be a windsock! Should’ve gone you know where!

You’ve sent me on a linguistic search – eolienne translates as wind turbine but not quite a moulin au vent. Aeolus – Greek god of the wind. Great photos of geometric three ‘pale’ wind gods! Can’t think f the English for the three spurs! Palos / sticks in Spanish! Catalan!! At least you could see something as so big!

Thanks for that. I love linguistic rabbit holes!

Blimey these comment are doing my head in. Great foggy photos. You would need a beer after driving in that 😂
I enjoyed Beaune.

That’s horrible driving (and walking) weather! I hope it’s improving for you – things have certainly got brighter back here in England although also much colder ❄️❄️❄️
