The sea is greedily consuming the beaches of the Maresme coast, Catalonia. So here in Premià de Mar, the council is building a series of groynes going out into the sea to prevent the sand being swept away and to encourage it to creep back to the shore.

For Becky’s #SquaresRenew
Yes, it keeps on nibbling away! We have a dredger out in our intercostal water, fighting a losing battle. All happy there, Margaret?

Indeed! I had a Spanish Celebration of my birthday, but it just reminds me of how old I’m getting 😦

Darn! I don’t have your birthday in my little blue book. Nice that you had good company to ‘celebrate’ with.

Well, I was surprised to see how much the beach has grown. Tons and tons of imported sand though…

Let’s hope the council’s strategy works. IT would be a shame if the sand eventually disappeared.

I’m afraid it will. On the plus side, the relative lack of beach keeps the town tourist-free.

Yes, living by beaches that used to be quiet but are now filled with tourists nature is retreating. So there is an upside.

Rather like East Yorkshire then?

Luckily no beach-side houses. But the coastal railway line may be at risk before too long.

Mm… you have to wonder why we spend vast amounts of money on trying to fight nature. Land comes and goes. Happy birthday, like Jo I don’t have a note. May’s a nice month for a celebration unless like the OH it’s during the school half term!

I know! It won’t last, this beach. Thanks for the good wishes. May and June are best for birthdays I think. Unless half term is involved …

Happy belated birthday! I disagree, July is best. For years when I was working approximately 4 years out of 7 (allowing for the odd leap year) I was off because my birthday coincided with a four day weekend for the Glasgow Fair.

Thank you. I think we can agree that anything is better than December and January!

I wonder about Canute when so much goes into these measures to stop the sea!
