A lovely walk with friends: up hills, down dales, along two rivers – the Burn and the Ure – and finally, through woodland. Storm Otto had got here first. Look what was across the path.

Good to walk with friends, not so good the obstacles!

It was a bit of fun towards the end of the walk actually, so no harm done. Except to the tree…

Not so very long ago (at least that’s how it feels), I’d have nipped over that kind of obstacle with alacrity!

There was a regent of the Habsburg line in the 14th century called Otto, the Merry. And although the visit of Otto was not a happy one, you look decidedly merrier than the Habsburg Otto.

Triumph over adversity, that.

Isn’t it strange how making weird noises helps you cross such obstacles!

You and your walking friends will feel quite at home here as there are a few trees down due to the cyclone and tracks are still not being cleared. Keeps the body flexible.

It does indeed! Yes, tree loss always feels sad.

The main reason I think is due to how long it takes for most of them to mature. I am a tree hugger from way back.

It’s amazing how much damage storms can do. It looks like you had lovely weather for your walk.

We did thanks. Rain was forecast … and didn’t happen. Perfect.
