Yes, really. That is the collective noun for a group of flamingos. As seen in Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucestershire, and near Thessaloniki, Greece.

We love them! A daily sight here, round and about the salt pans.

I remember seeing flamingos at Slimbridge when I was a child and being thrilled by it. So exotic for a little girl brought up in the Gloucestershire countryside! Thanks for reminding me of that.

I don’t think you have to be a little girl to be thrilled by them. I still am thrilled.

I was lucky. But they’re not nearby, so I shan’t see them again soon.

Thank you for my new fact for today. A flamboyance how wonderful and your pics do them justice too. Delightful.

I think the only places I’ve seen flamingos is in a zoo. How cool 😀 😀

Whereas I’ve only seen them in a wildlife centre or in the wild. Lucky me!

So elegant in an awkwardly gauche sort of way – those spindly legs!

I know. Moving slowly is the trick to their looking elegant, I think.

Fabulous Margaret. You have captured their elegance and sophistication.

I guess that creatures who shovel around with their beaks for nourishment don’t qualify as sophisticated in human terms, but yes, they are, aren’t they?

I didn’t know about the flamboyance! How perfectly, perfect. Love your photos too.

Wow. I did not know that. I’m going to post soon about a group of pelicans…wonder what THOSE are called. I better look it up.

Obviously, I had to go and look that up immediately, and I see you have 4 words to choose from. I wonder which you’ll choose?

Hmmmm I haven’t looked it up yet…will go do that now.

I didn’t know flamingos could be seen in the UK.

Not wild they can’t. But the wetlands habitat at Slimbridge suits them pretty well.

Is that a captive population then?

They’re in no way in captivity … but I don’t think they go anywhere else.

Great photos, flamingos are so elegant! I’ve gone to Africa and South America to see them – and now it turns out, I could just have done a quick trip to Gloucestershire! 😆

Add to this the Camargue….. or the zoo! They are such wonderful, silly, exotic birds. Gotta love them.

I think of them as austere rather than silly. But they are wonderful. Yes, I haven’t been ti the Carmargue.
