Today, I offer a miscellany of shots setting out to explore the Rule of Three: that images with three subjects (or more, but always an odd number) are more appealing and therefore more memorable. It’s Tina who invites us to look at this idea for this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge.
Country Mouse is inevitably book-ending this post with sheep. Part of the daily round here.
But she gets herself out and about sometimes. Here she is in London, near the Thames. Overlooking the river near Greenwich; looking at Peter Burke’s Assembly in Woolwich in the company of a pigeon; and over at Granary Square, part of the Gasholder development.

She’s even ventured further afield. To be intrigued by a window sill in Alsace, at Soulzbach-les-Bains; and by a decorated pillar in the Castell de Santa Florentina, Canet de Mar, Catalonia.

But those sheep are calling, back home.

Country Mouse must have known inside herself something about this Rule of Three, as she took these shots unaware that she was Sticking to the Rules.
Signing off now for a bit, apart from tomorrow’s scheduled post. I may not see your posts, though I might send the odd Virtual Postcard.
Lovely series Margaret

Ooh, exciting! Where are you off to, Margaret? xx

That’d be telling, Jo. There have been hints … but maybe you should wait for the first postcard. We’re Interrailing, but not like student days. We have all our trains and accommodation booked.

Sounds wonderful! I’ve missed the hints. I shall come back to you for advice on how rail tripping works. Boa viagem, darlin xx

The middle figure on that pillar looks as if they’ve enjoyed giving the other two a bit of bad news. Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks. I took note of your suggestions from your recent trip too. And who knows what they were all talking about. We could write the book-of-the-photo?

Well, the sheep are rather adorable!

They’re stolid and unassuming companions. But adorable once they stop being lambs? Hmmmm….

I know the saying about cats “If I fits, I sits” (and often, even when they do not fit). But pigeons are something else. They sit … everywhere, preferably somewhere with a view!
Good collection of threes!

Is that a German saying? I’ve never heard it. Pigeons sit – or woo an unimpressed female, 12 months of the year. Thank you!

It’s catspeak, internet style.

I also quoted it wrong, properly: If it fits, I sits.

Aha, I recognise that threesome in Granary Square! I love the pillar in Canet de Mar too, and that last sheep shot is super! I gather you’re off somewhere? Have fun!

Niće gallery of threes, Margaret! The sheep, as ever, look well behaved

They don’t ALWAYS behave well. Too daft.

Yeah. They routinely escape, immediately want to return, can’t remember how, and – in one memorable case – broke her leg while trying to batter the fence down.

Those clouds behind the sheep, though… wow

Interrailing around Sweden sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing more. And how you are getting there. I’m thinking a rail holiday might suit me if I go abroad again.

Erm. We’re getting there and back by rail. Day One? Harrogate to Cologne. Day two? Sweden. Yes, I’d definitely do a solo rail holiday. I think. I’ll let you know!

These are great Margaret – why are sheep always so photogenic? The frogs are cute too

Sheep are photogenic because tey don’t dash off just as you click. Maybe?

Lovely series, Margaret! Did the fluffy clouds lift from the fluffy sheep to hover beautifully over us?

Great photos as always. Ive heard of the rule of thirds and using it has changed my composition – I think… but I am not familiar of the rule of three…. I will have to investigate and explore that rule. I love the sheep and lambs

You’d have a field day with sheep and lambs round here!

Well Margaret, I’ve just finished reading “three bags full” which has been around for several years but I was prompted by the release of The Sheep Detectives movie (which I haven’t seen). So your post struck a chord with me because your sheep images are wonderful and were a nice reminder. Also loved the frogs and the statue next to them. As always, thanks for joining us and have a wonderful getaway.

Thanks so much. It proved to be an instructive challenge. It just shows we know more ‘rules’ than we think we do!
