Though I love little better than having a good book to read, amassing favourite quotations in my battered and becoming-unfit-for-purpose brain isn’t something that comes naturally. So Anne-Christine’s Lens Artist Photo Challenge this week – Pick a Favourite Quote and Illustrate it – was a challenge indeed.
Then a silly ditty my children and I enjoyed popped into my head – well, it had been raining all day, and how.
The rain it raineth every day
upon the just and unjust fellah.
But more upon the just, because ...
the unjust hath the just's umbrella
And here they are, those (stolen?) umbrellas

Umbrellas sometimes simply aren’t enough …

Somtimes it’s best to have a sheet of glass between you and the rain.

We who live in God’s Own Country can only dream of a rain free week …

But then after, there’s a rainbow …

‘The nicest thing about the rain is that it always stops. Eventually’.
Eeyore, in AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh
PS. I’ve sneaked in a sixth photo, against instructions, as my header photo. With no quotation attached to it, I hope it won’t count.
Looks like you had more fun than we did on your rainy day. ‘We’ erected faux wood cladding on a living room wall…eventually! Hopefully out to play today. Great quotes and pics, Margaret. Have a good day xx

Cormorants hanging themseleves out to try popped into my head when I saw those umbrellas. The sixth photo gives us a happy ending.

That’s a great comparison! Cormorants indeed. And yes, that particular rainbow was a very happy sight. As rainbows always are.

These are great Margaret. I have come to accept the fact ‘The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain’. Love the rainbow shot, and the bw one – in that one you can feel the mood of a rainy day

Thanks Ritva. Yes, the b/w is the rainiest, isn’t it?

Never seen a rainbow that low! Looks like it is indeed close to heaven.
In any case, no fire can survive that much rain

Oh, low rainbows happen fairly often here. And doubles, increasingly.

Well, that was better than a wet week – as the saying goes!

I love your opening shot – I’m so glad you sneaked it in (I did the same and got away with it 😆 ) And Eeyore is spot on, it does always stop eventually. I hope it does so for you soon!

To be fair, it has. Lovely sunshine now. Thanks Sarah. Once I started, I got quite into it, unxpectedly really.

Oh this so lovely and joyful, Margaret. We haven’t had any rain for a month, so I enjoyed these thoroughly! Great idea with the umbrellas and cormorants! On the spot! In fact an hour ago we saw a cormorant flying by us and suddenly there was a bang and it fell to the ground. I was sure it had been shot and ran up the hill to see. It must have hit a window in a house over there and was now sitting on the ground. Looked ok though.
Wonderful shots and great quotes – love Ior. So glad you participated despite doubts!

Thanks Anne-Christine. The only black cloud now is that it seems we’re destined not to meet – this time. It doesn’t look as if you’re as near to our routes as I’d hoped, and more importantly, your time is spoken for, especially once you reach Greenland – how exciting! My hunch however, is that this holiday will only whet our appetite for more of Sweden, and next time, we’ll plan better. Zoom is a poor substitute!

Ha ha, very clever! We went to watch the May Day dancing yesterday. In the rain. But today is glorious!

What a lovely little song and I adore the hanging umbrellas. Eyeore’s quote sounds about right but must have felt somewhat challenging for Noah and the others on the ark (although even for them it came true). But I thought it was always Zimbabwe’s claim to be “God’s own country”. I now learned there are more places to claim this label.

Enjoy it while it’s there (parched around here, just over the Peaks) and the farmers certainly need it.
