Monochrome Madness? Possibly. This week, Sarah’s calling for things beginning with P. I’ve picked birds. Birds beginning with P.
I need to confess that not one of the birds featured below is a passerine, though this order of birds accounts for about half of all bird species. Peacocks, puffins, parakeets, pigeons, pelicans, pheasants – none of them fits the bill. The raven in my featured photo is a passerine however. Though he doesn’t begin with P …

For Leanne’s Monochrome Madness, hosted today by Sarah of Travel with Me.
Puffins and pelicans for me. Happy Wednesday, Margaret xx

Haha, this made me smile! It also had me looking into passerines – they seem a very diverse bunch. Your splendid raven is definitely a Perching bird. I’m glad you gave the non-passerines their moment in the spotlight too.

Of course! Had to be done. They were the only ones with the decency to begin with P.

I love your captions almost as much as the images! And I do wish I’d thought of puffins – I have several from our Svalbard trip I could have used. That’s one of my favourite shots here but I think my top pick goes to the Pious parakeet 🙂

He’s a star isn’t he? He stayed in worshipful gaze for ages!

I’m with Jo, Team puffins and pelicans. The peacock is gorgeous though, such stately birds.

The parakeet shot is brilliant. And I like the puffins. But peacocks have to be in colour.

I know Jude. But in picking that image, I thought I might get away with it, because even in colour, the tail shows as quite black. Yes, the parakeet shot was pure luck.

I love the pious parakeet. Is the raven in Berwick? I remember that unusual style of bench there – though I think I might have seen it elsewhere too.

I like the parakeet too. But no, the raven is in Knaresborough, and often to be seen there, with or without that bench. In fact he was in a shot I posted the other week, overlooking Knaresborough Viaduct.

Black and white works for me, shows the bird that the dazzle makes you miss, perhaps.

I am partial to pelicans – they are HUGE. And the puffins please me. They are fun birds. And the parakeet can only be praised. That is really a praiseworthy picture. And that chair! the p-words leave me!

Oh, you should have Brian. I’d love to have seen a Peaceful Dove, a Pied Currawong, a Plumed Whistling Duck, a Papuan Frogmouth and a Petrophassa Rock-pigeon, Thanks, AI!

I’ve never seen pelicans on the ground! They look like little old men.

When I was a child in London, the pelicans of St. James’ Park NEVER appeared on land (except on their private island). Nowadays, they mooch about all the time.
