A quick look at shadows, the enigmatic feelings of mystery they can sometimes produce.
The featured photo shows the early morning sun, somewhere near here. No mystery perhaps. More a feeling of unknown promise in the day ahead. And below, this quiet photo from Laberint d’Horta in Barcelona reminds me of a morning I spent there discovering , hidden amongst the trees, apparently ancient statuary.

Two urban photos: one from the once gritty underside of Leeds, suggesting its dirty and industrial past, the other from a up-to-the-minute quarter of Barcelona. I like the hard-to-decipher shadows on the textured overhanging roof.

And lastly, another from canal-side Leeds. Someone should write a story about this young woman sitting contemplatively beneath the shadows of the trees.

For Leanne’s Monochrome Madness …
… and for John, the week’s Lens-Artists Challenge host. He’s chosen ‘Shadowed’.
Off you go then! I shall expect the story in my Inbox tomorrow xx
The Leeds/Barcelona duo has me a little confused, but I suppose that’s my natural state. I like the shafts of light in the opener. Rays of hope?

You’re allowed to be confused. I did this in a bit of a hurry. It’s simply two urban shots, that’s the only connection. Yes, hopeful is how I see that first shot too. YOU can write the story for the last shot! x

These monochrome images work so well with the shadowed theme, these are lovely the first and last one appeal to me the moat.

I was looking for shots that worked in mono. So thanks for thinking I got away with it!

Excellent response to the challenge, Margaret! Love that opening shot – I Think I have seen it in colour previously

You have. I didn’t expect it to work at all in b/w. But I think I got away with it. Thanks Sue.

I am on team suns rays Margaret 😀 It is a fabulous photo and works so well in Monochrome. Oh yeah, I like the other photos too. You know you shouldn’t confuse our Jo like that 😂

It doesn’t hurt to confuse Jo every now and then. Thank Brian!

My favourite is the Laberint d’Horta, both for the trees and the shadows they cast.

Oh good! Thank you. It’s a favourite of mine too. But I like the header shot even more.

Maybe a story inspired by that opening shot too? It’s gorgeous and so full of ….. who knows!

Right. Have you got your notebook and pencil out?

It’s hard to beat the loveliness of tree shadows as in your second shot. But the header is captivating too in its otherworldliness.

I am particulary fond of that first shot. It was one of those unexpected moments when I was so pleased I at least had my phone wtih me.

I love that opening shot in particular, the light is beautiful! Well done on finding more shadows so soon after Becky’s month of them – I confess I opted out of even trying 😆

I thought if I went with MM as well, I could do a few b/ws to ring the changes. Yes, I’m fond of that shot too. It was a lovely moment. Thanks!

This reminds me that I’ve not seen anything of Becky online for quite a while – have you heard from her?

I WhatsApped her recently because I too was concerned. I got the briefest of replies, that she was fine, but busy. But yes, she does seem to have gone to ground.

As long as she’s OK 🤗

Good morning Margaret… I have seen that top photo before – though I believe I have seen it in color. Great shadow photos. The bottom photo reminds me of when we were in London this past July and we sat beside the Thames underneath the Plane Trees. Oh, we needed that shade badly. Have a wonderful week.

Thanks Clay. And well remembered. You have indeed seen that photo in colour. I’m surprised to find it works well in b/w too.. Those Lodon plane trees are getting ever more useful as the climate becomes hotter.

Bushboy said it best, I, too, am on the team loving that opening photo, and it works great in black-and-white. I’m sure it’s just as gorgeous in color. Great work for fitting into two challenges so nicely, Margaret.

Margaret, what a beautiful set! These photos are gorgeous. The opener is breathtaking. Photo after photo, you give us stunning scenes. The closing image with the woman on the bench is serene. It gives us plenty of room to create our own stories with that photo.

Oh thank you so much. Yes, that first photo is a favourite, and the first time I’ve attempted to edit in in b/w. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked.

The second one is my favourite! Trees and the filtered shadow, the dappled effect — wonderful!

All very suitable examples, but the star is that feature image. So wonderful to capture the rays of sunlight and brilliant to make it black and white.
