Very – he loved his few years there and they made an indelible impression on him. He would have moved there as an adult but my mum-in-law was a city girl through and through!
While evacuated he lived with a gamekeeper and his wife, and the former had found him a job doing the same on another nearby estate, so the job wouldn’t have been a problem. But my mother-in-law had laddered her stockings on a visit to the couple and was horrified to find that the next bus to the nearest shops in Richmond wouldn’t be for a week!
From Pyrenees to Pennines 
I reckon that will suit the 3 of us comfortably, don’t you? xx

Sadly, the bus situation is scarcely any better now. That’s quite a sad little tale. But maybe life in Newcastle was easier with a young family?
