Reeth has a corner shop & PO, a bakery, gift shops, a bike shop, a cafe… it’s a charming village, but quite touristy.. You’re thinking about your next stage in life?
Very – he loved his few years there and they made an indelible impression on him. He would have moved there as an adult but my mum-in-law was a city girl through and through!
While evacuated he lived with a gamekeeper and his wife, and the former had found him a job doing the same on another nearby estate, so the job wouldn’t have been a problem. But my mother-in-law had laddered her stockings on a visit to the couple and was horrified to find that the next bus to the nearest shops in Richmond wouldn’t be for a week!
I reckon that will suit the 3 of us comfortably, don’t you? xx

What’s the view like. I feel like I want to turn the bench by 90°. But it’s nice to have no wind blowing in my back.

Exactly. It’s facing a lovely tumbling river and an ancient bridge.

Lovely. I don’t know this region. It’s quite far north?

Well, further north than me. Near Richmond, if that helps?

Mmm.. I’m wondering if Reeth would be a suitable base. Seems like there are shops and foodie places there.

A very inviting bench, and in my father-in-law’s old WW2 evacuee stamping ground!

Lovely to live there. But as a job or commuting centre – not so good.

Sadly, the bus situation is scarcely any better now. That’s quite a sad little tale. But maybe life in Newcastle was easier with a young family?
