In my head, I’m still on holiday. In my head, I’m processing all the new sights and experiences of the last few weeks. Among those sights was the Vosgienne. A smallish cow, black and white with a pronounced white stripe along its backbone, it has short delicate horns. And you’ll find it – of course – in the Vosges mountains. Locals value its creamy milk in cheese production, particularly of bold-flavoured Munster cheese.
My header image is of one we saw on our trip to the Transhumance celebrations. I bet she was glad to get rid of that weighty cowbell. She’d have had one on her mountain pastures too, but it would have looked more like this one here:

Welcome back, Margaret! Cows, pasture, bells and flowers- nice start xx

I’m relieved to hear their usual bells are less cumbersome. Hope the settling in goes well despite the weather.

A bit of sun would be appreciated … if only to dry the mountain of washing!

Lovely cow, but what a weight of a bell to carry! Welcome home, and shame your holiday was a bit damp at times…

It really wasn’t. Just a couple of days at the beginning, and only intermittently then. Perfect weather for all we had planned.

Oh, almost perfect then!

That is a serious cowbell. Thank goodness it’s not a permanent fixture.

Indeed. I’d run a mile if you tried to pit it on me.

I wonder if she has a HUGE crick in her neck?

Almost certainly. She’ll be over it now though I hope.

What an interesting breed of cow. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your trip even though it was rainy and damp. I know you can make almost anything a positive trip. Enjoy the week ahead.

Apart from an iffy couple of days at the beginning, the weather was absolutely fine! Perfect for sightseeing and walking in fact. We’re hoping this week will be quiet. A little bit tired ….Thanks Clay.

The bells are a bit over-the-top?

I’d say so. So would the cows, I’m guessing.

Gosh that bell does look heavy. But a very pretty crown of flowers. Welcome home! I wonder if it is as windy up there as it is here! If you’re not experiencing the rain showers you’ll soon get your washing dry.

Thank you. Yes, flowers are lighter than bells, for sure.

I do like Munster cheese so it’s interesting to see who I have to thank for it! Are your techie problems resolved now that you’re home?

More or less. I’ll have to pop into our friendly neighbourhood computer hospital for a final tidy up. Can you readily buy Munster cheese? Not SO easy here.

There are some great French cheese stalls in Borough Market

I live in cattle country, but we definitely don’t have cows like that. It does have interesting patterns on its coat. But now I want to try the cheese 😊 Maggie

Oh you should see if you can source some. Good cheesemongers here have it. Warning. It tastes better than it smells!

Welcome back! I much prefer your second photo. Poor cow in the first one carrying all that weight.

I don’t think she minded the weight so much as the crowds of admiring people. Some of them got a bit spooked.

That cowbell has to be uncomfortable.

I’d say so. Luckily, it’s not worn for long.

fiddlesticks I have guests 12th thru 14th, and more on 17th, and guessing you’ll be with grandkids over the weekend. WhatsApp though if you think a lunch at weekend might be possible xx

Sorry, Becky, I think not. The weekend is probably the time to spend with the family, as I doubt if I’ll see Tom much otherwise. What a shame! But I’ll be down with them soon afer Christmas I hope..
