Great take on the challenge. I remember following someone who used to post macros of everyday things for us to guess. Was good fun. And I too am opting for a cotton reel.
Awaking six hours after you this morning and all the good guesses are taken. I think Darlene is right. It could be a spool of thread or a decorative lacquered bobbin. I am sticking with it!
No point in guessing now cos everyone else got there first! I have a basket of reels of thread in every possible colour, some inherited from my mother-in-law and some from my own mother. You never know they might come in handy. (Unlikely since I never sew more than a button).
Yay! A reel of cotton xx

I enjoyed that! Do you happen to have a button box too?

I did have. Somehow, it got lost in our move back from France. A minor tragedy.

To me it looks like a spool of red thread, photographed up close. But it has been a long time since I have had spools of thread in the house.

I’m too late for all the pun comments. I didn’t know what it was instantly as a I am a sewer.
