My last day in Premià for the time being, so of course I need a quick walk through my favourite square in town. The oldest church is here: though all is not as it seems. As you’ve probably guessed, it dates from the 18th century. As you probably haven’t guessed, this building is a copy of the original, which was completely destroyed by Franco’s forces during the Spanish Civil War. It’s been rebuilt: an exact copy. So here’s a single church with a double history.
For Leanne’s Monochrome Madness.
That is a really great photo, and all the better for being black and white.

Oh, thank you! It’s courtesy of my cheap-and-cheerful and not-all-that-smart phone.

I like the B/W too, but thought some of you might miss the brilliant blue sky. My British readers anyway.

That’s an elegant bell tower and B&W gives it a certain timelessness

It’s a fine bell tower and an excellent landmark too.

Good that they chose to rebuild a copy and not a new design which might not have been in keeping with the surrounding buildings.

Most communities chose to replace like-for-like after the Civil War. Something about continuity, and connection with the community’s past, I guess.

Black and white photos have a special drama, don’t they?

I think so. I’m increasingly drawn to them.

War, what is it good for? Pretty amazing that they could and did rebuild it the way it was. If only we could do that with the people who were damaged. I agree with Amy above, remarkable photo. You have the eye for it.

Lovely photo, very atmospheric. And quite impressive they build an exact copy!

That’s what they seem to do in Europe generally. And they do it well, too.
