Greenwich is the historic home of the Prime Meridian Line – Longitude 0º. It has served as the reference line for Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) since 1884. GMT became the worldwide time-standard a century later.
So it was quite a surprise to find this on a road in Northern Spain:

There we were on the Greenwich Meridian line, whilst incontrovertibly some 1000 miles south of London. And the bull shown in my featured photo, which is a common roadside sight in those parts, proved us to be incontrovertibly in Spain. We must have been moving forward.
For Becky’s #SquaresRenew Challenge, she’s inviting us to post square – only square – photos on the themes of Burgeoning; Moving Forward; Reconstruction; or Renewal
I love the Osborne bulls all over Spain! I’m glad they kept them up.

Yup you got me too, I saw your header and having seen your url thought how can that be in Greenwich . . but of course the line goes all the way from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Spain technically is in the same time zone as the UK and Portugal, but has chosen to go with France, Germany and most of Europe.

Given I’m an Osborne, I was thrilled when I saw my first bull. Had to buy a bottle for my father who wasn’t a sherry drinker but he was delighted.

I never knew these bulls were an Osborne advert till today. Brand recognition can only get you so far!

The bull reminded me of the children’s book, Ferdinand the Bull a gentle bull who’d rather sniff flowers than bullfight. Had to look up the Osborne reference. And on the other side of the earth – GMT is International Date Line. Safe travels.

Many of us have learned about the Osborne connection today!

When you think about it, I guess it’s obvious the Meridian isn’t only in Greenwich – but we don’t usually think about it!

Indeed we don’t!

Are those white things snowflakes or raindrops? Or hail?

Rain. That part of Spain, surprisingly, goes in for it.

Interesting that they should mark it so prominently. I would not like to be any closer to that bull!

I was surprised too. But those bulls. Worry not. They’re benign.

I never thought about it “moving forward” to other locations, but of course, it would.

I know! It’s odd thinking of Greenwich as being Time Central.

I found it odd that Greenwich is in “other” places.
