That’s the task of the conscientious fisherman, every time his boat returns to land, laden with fish.

There’s a lot of that goes on around here, too. Nice one, Margaret!

The challenges of catching fish. May not always be laden with fish these days too, unfortunately.

It’s not a lifestyle you can envy, Georgina, but we still have the boats going out on a regular basis and the guys sitting mending. It’s a way of life I’d be sorry to see depart.

It’s a tradition from before biblical times, isn’t it?

Yes. I’d make a terrible fisherman’s wife! Fishwife, more like 😁🩵

Indeed, I think it is part of a coastal heritage but more and more difficult to make a living.

Indeed. Partly because too often, the catches were and are too laden.

Just small-scale for the local market, as here, I imagine?

Great photos Margaret, though I have concerns at how much fishing equipment finds itself wrapped around sealife. Not to mention how so many small time fishers are struggling against the huge trawlers.

Absolutely agree, Jude. This particular community seems to work hard with its own fishing community to build awareness of how they should fish safely. But those trawlers … that’s a whole other story.

At least he doesn’t have to worry about dropped stitches.

I always like to see the traditional fishermen mending their nets like this – it’s a reminder that not all the ‘old ways’ of doing things have been discarded.

Gotta be done. A torn net is no use to anyone – except a wily fish!
