For many people – and dogs, a walk along the seashore is the very best way of clearing the cobwebs and giving the busy mind a good old spring clean. A renewal, in fact.

It certainly is for me, although a long time since my sense of renewal inspired me to jump as wonderfully as your last shot!

That’s not so much about your sense of renewal, Becky, as about your acrobatic ability now that middle years are claiming you.

Absolutely! Though I find a ride equally effective.

Ah yes. That’s because you don’t fall off bikes. I have been unable to master the art, much to my cycling-afficonado husband’s disgust. And doubtless yours too.

We don’t have one near us but I have fond memories of walking along Norfolk’s Holkham beach, the culmination of a hike leading to lunch.

Ah, those are the kinds of memory I like too. We’re not near the sea either – more’s the pity.

I think many of us wish we could leap for joy like that child, I blame it on the suspension wearing out 😂

Oh yes, a walk on a beach is the perfect way to renew and revitalise! It’s our favourite thing for New Years Day (we’re usually in Newcastle so can get to the coast very easily). But like your other commenters, however renewed I might feel I couldn’t see myself jumping with the abandonment of that boy in your last photo!

Well quite. We’re all getting a bit long in the tooth for that.

Beach walks are wonderful. We had some good ones in Ireland – but restrained ourselves from jumping into the water!

Unlike the young man in your picture I did not fancy wet feet. Or, it appears, a wet bottom.

A profound photo collection, Margaret. You reminded me of a quote by Hermann Broch: “Those who live by the sea can hardly form a single thought of which the sea would not be part.”

I knw that to be true, Rebecca. I lived by the sea for about 2 years about 50 years ago, and the memories of being there, so close to the sea, whatever the weather, will never leave me.

Portsmouth – well, Southsea actually. I loved it in winter when the tourists were gone and it got very stormy.

Wonderful photos, now I want to take a walk along the beach. Unfortunately, there isn’t one anywhere near here. One of my favourite things is to go camping near the ocean and fall asleep to the sound of waves.

Oh wow, how wonderful. I’ve never done that.

If only! I did some heavy hammer and crowbar work yesterday. I should be fully recovered by July!

Lovely evocative shots, Margaret. It is nice to be beside the seaside and walking (or even leaping!) on the beach best of all, including in the company of dogs.

Oh, dogs do love a long beach run, don’t they?
