Here’s a view of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool. In the background is HMS Trincomalee, built in Mumbai (Bombay then) just after the Napoleonic Wars. Then there is a row of Georgian buildings, now housing many of the museum’s displays. And in front of them is … the car park.
For Debbie’s Six Word Saturday.
Gloomy day, but I do enjoy old buildings

Ritva, as this spring goes, it was a glorious day (relatively), and the buildings were also glorious.

Very good point – although that category seems to be reemerging under the current government 😦

I was thinking of that as I wrote it. Although these days, I’m not sure this government thinks there are any deserving poor.

Yeah, sadly I think you are right. Really hope there is a change this year – I have made sure I have found a way to stay on electoral roll whilst I am in between home – just in case the GE happens before the autumn

A lovely day I see, as long as it wasn’t cold. Good layering, the clothes to keep warm and dry, as well as the photo 😀

It was genuinely OK with adequate temperatures and No Rain!

This looks splendid! I must fit a visit in to one of my northern jaunts.

It was good. It delivered rather less than we hoped for, but it was worth a visit.

I’ve rarely seen so many cars parked outside, Margaret.

It was still school holidays up there, apparently.

That’s a nice progression. I’ve always wanted to visit Hartlepool. Do you know the story about the monkey?

I’m guessing you’re asking because you do! Yes, it’s part of northern folklore, but on the off chance you don’t, it’s here: https://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofEngland/The-Hanging-of-the-Hartlepool-Monkey/

Hartlepool rugby club’s mascot was a monkey called Angus. I had to think about that before the penny dropped 😂

Such a shame about the car park… I do like a Georgian building though.

Georgian buildings? Me too. Car parking? Me too. Though we went by train and it came of course with the usual selection of delays …

Isn’t it interesting that the past stays with us, Margaret. Thank you for the links on HMS Trincomalee’s history. So many adventures and iterations over the decades!!

Absolutely! Britain and its empire makes for interesting, if not always edifying reading.

Built in Bombay immediately after the Napoleonic wars? I’m pretty sure it was built by the Wadia family, one of the first Parsis to leave Gujarat for Bombay.
