The featured photo shows the Vikings as we always seem to think of them: a bellicose lot of marauders and fighters. In fact they were much like the rest of us – seeking a simple life of home, work and family. A trip to York, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Viking Festival showed us an everyday story of country folk.
They must have been doing something right. They even had a willing slave in the form of my eight year old grandson cheerfully wielding his broom for his temporary Viking master.

Those shoes are really quite stylish!

And comfortable too, I guess.

All looks very authentic! Maybe not Jack with his broom but very adorable.

I know. Last June, and he was only born a few weeks ago, it seemed to me … Though he’s fitted a lot in.

Ah, marauding Vikings, or even not so marauding Vikings – what a way to start my week. Thanks for sharing, Margaret, and your grandson really looks the part!

Viking Festival, eh? William doesn’t look too concerned about having to do all that work for his master! Love those shoes

Never mind the Vikings…. It‘s the cool shoes I adore. Soft, comfy, great cut and great style – I would totally buy them.

I love the Jorvik Viking Centre and have been to a couple of Viking festivals. I admire the Vikings. They were the first Europeans to come to North America.

Yes they were, weren’t they? And only recently recognised for it. I’m glad you’ve been able to visit York and its Viking history.

Fun times with your grandson. Many of which he is sure to remember.
Now you have me thinking back on long ago memories between myself and my late grandmothers.
Thank you.

I can still smell the Yorvik centre, even after about 30 years !

Oh Margaret. I LOVED visiting the Jorvik Viking Centre several years ago. You are so right!! They were very much like the rest of us – seeking hearth and home, putting food on the table, and building a community. You have wonderful photos.

Such a cute photo of your grandson. Love the orange hat. I’ll admit Vikings had a home life, but they were pretty fierce warriors, both women and men. I live with two Swedish descendants ; 0
