Do you prefer … colour? … or monochrome?

Here was a quiet moment in Ripon Spa Gardens last Saturday. All of us who are Over a Certain Age had formed orderly queues outside every single doctors’ surgery in town – all three of them – to get not only a ‘flu jab, but also an unexpectedly delivered Covid booster shot. You’ve never seen so many older people in town at one time, or witnessed such parking chaos. No wonder the old geezer on the bench wanted a break.

For Debbie’s Six Word Saturday.

  1. I think it depends on your intent. A pleasing scene in a colorful park or an older person sitting alone in a quiet moment. I think the monochrome is a bit more evocative and has more emotion to it.

  2. I visited ‘Disney Land’ in 1958. I prefer color 🙂 {Tinker Bell flying across the sky with fireworks in the background of the castle just wouldn’t cut in ‘monochrome’}

  3. I‘m quite partial to monochrome photos but of course colour just really jumps at you with all intent and joie-de-giver. This one here really speaks to me, it personifies the autumnal mood and tells, respectively, underlines the story you tell…. Well done!

  4. For this one, I like it in color. But generally I’m partial to black and white. But I like the red in this image. We don’t have the covid boosters in our pharmacy yet. So I’m waiting a tiny bit. Also I am sick with either a cold or rsv…so have to wait anyway. Do you have a rsv shot there too? We do, but I haven’t gotten any shots yet. sigh.

  5. I prefer the colour shot, Margaret as the black and white seems very black and doesn’t have as much detail as the colour version.
    And a very interesting tale of how COVID still impacts our lives. I don’t reach the Certain Age till January but I’ll be queuing for flu soon.

    1. Thanks Debbie. Everyone seems to have a different take. Good luck with getting your ‘flu jab – I thought you anyone entitled to ‘flu jabs could get Covid jabs too?

  6. Agree with St,eve

    Agree with Steve Gingold’s comments, and for me, monochrome has the definite edge for conveying emotion, so I’m going for that.

  7. I prefer the monochrome for this one – the colour is a bit too busy and your eye doesn’t focus on the man so closely. Great you got your jabs, I’ve not heard anything yet!

  8. I think colour for a park, but people photos are usually good in black and white. Also, people have remained in love with black and white photography, just something about classic old photos and new. We had to book our flu jabs on line, or at least anyone who had disclosed their mobile phone number to the surgery was sent a text message with a link. Appointments at two minute intervals! But with four or five rooms on the go. Wonder if they will have a fast lane and a slow lane in and out!

  9. I’m with the camp who thinks monochrome suites your storyline better. But take the man away and colour is better for a pretty picture of the park. You’ve reminded me to check what’s happening about our covid/flu jags, must be due soon.

      1. Good morning, dear Margaret,
        it depends what you want. If you want to document something we think colour is better. If you see your photography as art BW helps.
        Wishing you a happy Sunday
