Here’s Harrogate yesterday, enjoying the first true week of spring.

The building with the turreted clock is the famous Betty’s Tea Room. But we won’t go there today. Instead, we’ll have a picnic later, in the Valley Gardens. That white rectangular frame you can see is a favourite family-photo spot. If you haven’t got your family with you, best take a selfie …

Next stop, Valley Gardens. It’s all tricked out at the moment for a Fire and Light Experience. We’ve been to one of these festivals before, in 2016, and it was fabulous. But we’re still too post-covid flattened to feel like an evening out. So we’ll just enjoy the braziers and installations set in place …

… and focus on the blossoms and spring flowers instead.

Just a short walk. But it’s enough to change our mood and lift our spirits.
For Jo’s Monday Walk

The Valley Gardens with blossom in full sway look marvellous.

It really was. Just what was needed. And then, of course, the opticians and all the delays that entailed ….

It’s looking glorious, Margaret. Seems ages sine I was a-strolling there and I won’t have time on next weekend’s fleeting visit, but maybe in August. Meanwhile, how are you? Still feeling tired post-Covid? I like the sound of the Fire fun! We have a Spring Fair this morning, and an accordionist in Music in the Churches this evening. Have a lovely weekend!

Thanks for the tour. I shall be in Harrogate in May, all being well, so will look out for your favourite places.

What a shame. I’d love to have met you there, but I’ll be away all month.

Beautiful. Hopefully these signs of spring have lifted your spirits a little. Slow and steady along the post-covid recovery path.

Yes, we’re getting there, thanks. My impatient nature doesn’t help.

Valley gardens was always a haven of peace during my time living nearby 1964 -67. My, what a long time ago that seems!

Oooh, that was a long time ago. I suspect it won’t have changed all that much. Always lovely.

It’s quite a ‘thing’ in England these days. Yes, quite a fun reason to pause and enjoy the moment.

Yes, and probably at its best in springtime.

I hadn’t realised that you had caught the dreaded Covid. Do you know how? There’s nothing better than beautiful spring sunshine and a garden full of spring flowers to uplift the soul. And with plenty of benches!

Indeed! It was Malcolm who got it first – we have no idea how or where. But We’re slowly getting the upper hand.

Well hopefully no lasting effects! We are still fairly cautious, but seeing how infectious it is at the moment I am sure it will catch up with us at some point.

I’m sort of glad now. I know people can get it more than once, but I feel more relaxed now, and safer – for a while.

I was there with you in the gardens, Margaret. I am so glad to hear that you are on the road to recovery. I love when the earth awakens and surrounds us healing energy. P.S. one day we will meet at Bettys!

Rebecca, you’re on! Start saving now. Betty’s is not a bargain basement treat!

We have our ticket vouches to London (we were supposed to have visited your side of the world in 2020!). When we visited in 2017 we went to the Bettys near York Minsters. Alas, I understand it has now closed, but we still have the photos!!!

Don’t worry – only the shop in York has closed. The café remains, and I was there with my family recently. But the Harrogate one is nicer, so we’ll go there together 😉

Gorgeous, gorgeous pictures. A little touch of Spring makes all the difference. I do miss Bettys, it’s one thing I’ve found nothing quite like when living not-in-the-North. Maybe I’ll treat myself to an online order.

Ah, but it’s the tea-or-coffee-time experience that buying on line can’t re-create.

Harrogate does look like a rather elegant and interesting place. And, I see it’s possible to get a train from York. I am hoping next year, after Covid??, to finally get to the York Early Music Festival.

Well, I also enjoy this festival, though somehow seem to have got out of the habit (I didn’t even go to any online events), so …. see you there?

Am on mailing list, but see much already sold out for this year, not surprising, but next year I might get my act together, so until then it’s Radio 3 and online and maybe next year I will be in Yorkshire!!!!

Glad to read that you and Malcolm are recovering, and going out into such a lovely spot in spring sunshine must have been somewhat restorative. I hope there are many more lovely spring days to come despite the setbacks of sleet and so forth.

Thanks. Currently we have our granddaughter. Exhausting and restorative in equal measure!
