Today’s post for Becky’s Squares takes me to our nearby woodlands . Leaves are just emerging on the trees, a fresh acidic green. This delicate newness may be my favourite time of year for a walk in the woods. The trees are busy renewing, burgeoning, reconstructing, moving forward …
Yes, the greening up of the trees and hedgerows is so lovely to see. All that new growth.

I love it, what lovely local woodlands you have. Are they the same ones Rob Cowen mooches about in?

Nope. We mooched round those when we lived in Harrogate, because we lived on the same ‘patch’ as Rob. These are even better.

We’re very lucky with our -often ancient – woodlands round here. Not as many as there were, but still easy enough to access.

Regardless of weather patterns, it’s always the first week of May that brings this explosion of delicate leaves in so many shades of green. Like you, perhaps my favourite time to be amongst the trees. Your final square is pure joy!

Such lush, fresh greens! We have a patch of beech wood just above our street and a stretch of wild garlic to go with it. My partner made some delicious pesto
