Looking for Birds Beginning with P last week, I came upon other birds, which didn’t. What many of them did have was their being water birds. The pair in the header shot are godwits. Here are a few others:

A heron, a juvenile herring gull, and four cormorants.
They’re for Leanne’s Monochrome Madness. And, why not? also for Beth’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: On the Water – more later, in colour!
Love the godwits and reflections xx

They looked so peaceful, fossicking about. Still in England? xx

I wasn’t expecting flamingos. Seeing them in monochrome makes you look properly rather than just registering pink.

Thanks Susan. That’s rather what I thought.

Oh I love Pflamingos, and of course pgulls, pherons, pgodwits and pcormorants too.

Pthankyou! Though pherring gulls maybe not quite so much: they do have a somewhat evil eye as they steal the tourist’s fish and chips!

At the fish rightfully belongs to them. Not the chips though. Never

Excellent photos of these water birds, specially flamingos in monochrome, and great idea for the two challenges!

One doesn’t think of “flocks” of cormorants but they are pretty gregarious, aren’t they? I adore the first shot, with the backlighting and the reflections. — incidentally, I’ve also got birds this week.

Great mids, Elke! Thanks. And yes – see a cormorant, and there’s another one along soon.

Wonderful collection of water birds. I really like them in monochrome. The flamingos are my favorite. Thanks for taking part in the challenge.

What a beautiful set, Margaret! The opener was my favorite. Those silhouettes, reflections, and monochrome choice are top-notch!

A heron, a juvenile herring gull, and four cormorants. Makes me want to add ‘and a partridge in a pear tree’… But no! Wrong post! Love those that did make it into this collection though.

I agree about the flamingos working surprisingly well in monochrome. Maybe the wavy reflections help Marie to my favourite shot.

I wouldn’t have thought of doing birds in monochrome, but they really work, they look great Margaret.

Can’t fault a heron. They even commit murder elegantly. And yes, I love godwits too, and all those shore-fossicking birds.

Loved the first one especially, and interesting with flamingos in B&W. That makes them totally different to my eyes – I only see pink!

I know! The pink is so astonishing you forget to notice anything else. PS. We’re coming to discover a bit about your wonderful country in June. Can’t wait!

What – You’re coming in June?! When, where?

We’re Interrailing. Main two centres Göteborg and Stockholm but with, we hope, many adventures from places reachable from those cities. Our itineraray has become more and more limited the more we plan, as we’d sooner see a little well than rush round a lot. Sadly, that’s eliminated the whole of the north of the country – this time. We’re leaving the UK on the 8th June.
