My Monday Portrait is not of reindeer: but I hope this group of red deer stags will prove acceptable to Father Christmas as he packs up his deliveries on Wednesday evening.

Do they know they have a hard night ahead? Merry Christmas from the airport, Margaret xx

It’s a lovely – and common – sight at Studley Roayal throughout the summer.

Wow. To see so many males together. We have deer here, will see herds of females but usually only one male with each bunch. Many years ago I saw two bucks fighting in my backyard. That was amazing. But I’ve never seen them just hanging out together.

They’re from Studley Royal, a deer park with some 300 deer. Two bucks fighting must have been an imposing sight.

Lovely antlers! We know they’re male deer because only the female reindeer have horns this time of year according to a reindeer keeper I met recently.

Indeed. And red deer females have none. Fancy knowing a reindeer keeper!
