Becky’s Post yesterday made me call to mind the many shots I have of birds fossicking about in the water. Today, it’s all about the herons (and just one egret). My featured photo comes from under a bridge over the River Aire in Leeds: hence the shadow. It’s not square. But the next lot are:

For Becky’s NovemberShadows.
I love herons! Possibly my favourite bird. And somewhere I also have an unsquare photo of that first. Happy Monday, Margaret xx

Anyone who doubts the dinosaur/bird link should watch a heron in flight! They have enviable concentration.

They do, don’t they? And yes indeed. 21st century pterodactyls.

no they’ve been fine, not sure what it is. Hopefully not a bug developing, and more that I have not stopped for the past couple of weeks

Love the colors in the ripples of the water, and the birds cast lovely shadows

Love this collection, herons make such good subjects. I especially love the watery hues in two of the shots. And the shadows!

I love herons – there’s something about their stillness when they wait for fish that makes me have to stand still myself and watch. I love the reflections and colours in your shots 🙂

It was lovely sunset at the time. And yes, I do admire a heron’s focus. If only I could too!

Lovely colours to go with the herons. I don’t think I have seen one on the Hayle estuary, but definitely egrets.

That’s surprising. I thought herons went everywhere! We have more egrets than we used to.

There may well be herons, I just haven’t seen any, but I don’t spend much time around the estuary. Maybe I should.

These are wonderful Margaret. I confess though that I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a heron and an egret!

One big, and often grey. T’other white and more delicate looking. And smaller.

I love fishing birds like herons, egrets, and cormorants. You caught some lovely colors in some of those photos and the painting under the bridge is great.

Sunset’s a great time for fishing bird shots. Yes, love ’em all! I was glad to spot that painting in a thoroughly urban setting.

Thanks. I file my pictures in folders by time. As in ‘Saltaire, Friday 21st November’: ‘Spain, January 2025’ and keep them in Google Photos. Then, if I want something particular: leaves, say, or violins, or Barcelona, Google dos the hunting for me. ‘Organised’ is not my middle name!
