I couldn’t decide whether to post high-rise dwellings for those working-from-home, 1580s style (as tanners, so not popular with the neighbours: it’s a smelly job) … climbing up to the top floor looks a little taxing …

…. or the staircase from the very wonderful Unterdenlinden Museum, once a convent, now an art gallery right up there as One of the Best (a post one day soon?)…..

… or a very earnest, if tiny little figure, spotted on a confessional in St. Martin’s Cathedral …

So much else qualifies too, but three postcards is quite enough, I think.
A delightful trio

Such a lovely set Margaret. I like all three. That little figure is quite earnest and the staircase is a wow

The whole museum is a wow. More later. My little reader is quite a sweetie.

The tanning quarter of our town is also highrise buildings. I always thought it had to do with the fact that it was built on the slope of a hill. But you might be on to something…

Apparently the skins needed a good fresh breeze offered by being up high. It may have been better for the neighbours too …

The whole quarter was basically a tannery, it still carries the name.

There you go then! The world’s first high-rises (apart from cathedrals …)

Your postcards have been marvellous, and with the tech issues, I’m really pleased you were able to post today. And definitely, we must see more of that art gallery…. Love the little reader and she seems to have been popular with a number of your followers!

Thanks so much Sue. I’m really sorry about your Alsace tech issues, but I’m looking forward to our having an Alsace-ish chat with accompanying photos on my return. And Unterlinde will certainly get 5 minutes of fame!

An Alsace-ish chat will be good! As for the tech issues, I may well repost…won’t be the same as I don’t remember precisely what I put in the post originally but hey

All three of these make wonderful postcards! You’re right, the climb to those upper floors looks a little daunting, but the buildings themselves are lovely. The little carved figure reading is very engaging – well done you for spotting her (him?) But if I could receive only one of these I think I’d opt for that so-elegant staircase 😀 I’m looking forward to hearing more about that ‘one of the best’ gallery!
