I haven’t offered a Monday Portrait in a while. But when I met this distinguished sow yesterday, I knew I had to give her 5 minutes of fame. She’s had a long life, mothering many piglets. Happily, she won’t end up on anyone’s dinner plate.

That’s a lovely portrait. I worked with pigs on pig farms in NZ and they are quite intelligent

Was she sticking out her tongue to you? She looks like a right crotchety old piggy.

She’s NOT crochety. A real sweetheart.

I haven’t seen ‘venerable’ and ‘pig’ together, but this might work.

Couldn’t resist replying–you’ll even find a sagacious pig in Dickens!

You’re welcome: it’s from Pickwick–the story of Prince Bladud and the sagacious pig who ‘found’ the hot springs at Bath 🙂

But she’s not! Pigs who are kept past their sell-by date here are definitely loved and wanted. In other circumstances, she could well have gone to the knacker’s yard.

Great portrait Margaret, pigs are funny animals. So glad to hear she won’t be anyone’s dinner.
