I haven’t offered a Monday Portrait in a while. But when I met this distinguished sow yesterday, I knew I had to give her 5 minutes of fame. She’s had a long life, mothering many piglets. Happily, she won’t end up on anyone’s dinner plate.

That’s a lovely portrait. I worked with pigs on pig farms in NZ and they are quite intelligent

But she’s not! Pigs who are kept past their sell-by date here are definitely loved and wanted. In other circumstances, she could well have gone to the knacker’s yard.
