Great! What was the occasion? Who needs an excuse to party? Still got a week to go? I can see you’re having fun xx

It’s an annual festival, and this time, gegants from other towns were invited too. Why? Just because …. It was my first outing since I got here, with Olivia. I was very much at work before this. But happy to be so.

First glance, I thought the guy was Basil Fawlty (aka John Cleese) 🙂

I see what you mean! You start imagining they look like all kinds of real people.

I love these. Must take a lot of practice.

Practice, stamina and strength I’d say.

We saw these one year as part of a wonderful pageant

They wheel them out at the least opportunity. Well, why not?

What fun they are! I should imagine hulking a fe gegant about is no easy job…they must be heavy and a challenge to your balance

They must be torture, especially as it’s very humid at the moment.. They have straps inside that make wearing them a lot like a rucksack. I don’t intend to find out more!

Very interesting. Is the chap wearing a dress?

No. Think of it as mediaeval robes. A genuine 21st century person has got to squeeze in there somewhere to carry this tottering tower. Breeches need not apply.

Tiny feet! And I agree with the Basil Fawlty identification.

I can see that now. There is another that looks like a friend of ours but his wife was deeply offended when I sent her a snapshot. I thought he (the gegant) was quite a handsome fellah too.

Apparently they represent real and mythological people important in Catalan history, and are symbols of strength and unity. So I’m told …
