The wisteria isn’t as advanced this year, but this is the bench outside our window on April 28th, 2020, the dreaded Year of the Lockdown.

For Jude’s Bench Challenge. She too has chosen a Lutyen’s bench today.

The Wisteria is rather impressive. I have never heard of a Lutyens bench before

Well, you have at least two chances to inspect them this week! https://cotswoldteak.com/blogs/news/everything-you-need-to-know-about-buying-a-lutyens-bench

I know and have just gone down a rabbit hole of Lutyens benches.
Some are over the top expensive

Oh, aren’t they just? You could knock one up from bits of wood lying about?

I had a look, some nice benches there and I was sorely tempted by the 25% discount until I read the delivery costs were 60 quid (my 3 and pound sign key is dead) which I thought OK, but then there is a surcharge of another 65 quid to my postcode! More than the actual bench I fancied…

You’ll have to get Brian to run you one up. Though delivery from Australia might cost a bob or two.

It’s called “blue rain” in German, although “purple rain” might be more appropriate … and off I go with a little prince singing in my head for the rest of the day.

I love wisteria – how wonderful to have one of your own! There’s a street near us where the residents seem to compete to have the best wisteria display, but they’re already going over slightly here.

Well, it’s not ours of course, but our landlord’s. Luckily, it rampages everywhere!

Margaret, what a wonderful place to sit and simply be. To read, reflect, or simply be silent. You certainly have a gift in that bench and the view from inside.

And don’t we know it. How lucky we were to find this spot, and these landlords, when we moved back to the UK.

Two of my favourite things in a garden. A Lutyens bench and wisteria. What a lovely spot to sit and read a book and take in the scented air around you.

Indeed! Though (being picky) it’s often too hot a spot in the body of the day.

Absolutely charming! And I join the legions who had never heard of Lutyens benches but have been educated twice over today.

Wel. The idea of being able to educate the polymath that is Anabel quite turns my head!

I love wisteria, even though in the south it’s kind of invasive. But here in the north it’s just pretty. Nice bench too! It all looks very inviting.

It IS inviting. And we all love wisteria, don’t we? Invasive wisteria? You can never have too much!
