This last weekend saw the annual Masham Steam Engine and Fair Organ Rally take place. Unaccountably, we’d never been before. But at 6.00 in the evening we turned up to watch these lovingly restored vehicles parade through the town. And before the Parade Proper started, these rather charming miniature engines had their moments of fame.

The parade of the Real Steam Engines is for another day.
Many hours of dedication there, Margaret. And what is Mastodon, please? I’m not familiar with that one.

This dates from a taime when I thought Mastodon would overtake Twitter. Same sort of thing. I’ve removed everything now, since I don’t use social media. Don’t know why I had them in the first place!

Ha! Sensible lass. I use Instagram because I love seeing the photographs, but it’s a pain to try and keep up.

What a fun sight and it does bring out the inner child! I know, strange how one suddenly realises that there are places or events that have always been missed! Glad you caught up with this one, Margaret! 😀

I had no idea there were miniature versions! Clearly the objects of much loving attention.

These are fun, and you can see the many hours that must go into their care. I bet their owners were proud to show them off like this!

They have several opportunities over the summer in North Yorkshire alone. You can see how they have all become friends and just love getting together.

What wonderful old machines! And a true labour of love and no shortage of finances to keep them going!!

Exactly. Not a cheap hobby at all.

Almost worth getting a driving licence for one of these. I’d domy supermarket shop in it.

No you wouldn’t. One bar of chocolaate and that’s all you’d have room for 😉

These steam engines are so cute! Couple of the guys look like they’re worried they’ll fall off!

Not at all! They were enjoying their moment in the spotlight with their well-tended engines.

What a fascinating history, Margaret. My husband and I enjoyed your photos and the link to the Masham Steam Rally. What a brilliant history! You reminded me of a wonderful memory of riding the North Yorkshire Moors Railway between Pickering and Whitney.

Ooh, I bet you had to have a good wash afterwards. All that smutty smoke!

I didn’t realize how much smoke would be accompanying this ride, Margaret. Hercule Poirot movies rarely show the smoke (only steam) and there is no smell of smoke coming through the screen! LOL

You’d better upgrade your computer, Rebecca 😉

Yes, all good clean fun! (Well, not that clean. Their big brothers the stem engines got lots of smut into te atmosphere)

Those are so cute, and so funny to see the big men on them with their knees bent almost up to their ears!

Small town festivals are the best. Those steam engines look quite the hobby. keep your eyes open, you never know what you’ll miss.

Exactly! And it might be a small town festival, but people came hundreds of miles to participate. And how they enjoyed seeing each other and catching up!

It keeps the craftsmen out of the house, definitely!

Gosh, what a consuming hobby that would be. And so rewarding.

It would need to be rewarding. A VERY expensive way of passing the hours in a Man Shed.
