Think differently!

Today’s post features photos I’ve shown before, but I think the travelling-arrangements shown here deserve another outing on my blog. The rovers in this traditional vardo have renewed their attitude to travel and urge us to do the same: to journey slowly and reflectively, taking time to revitalise their contact with the areas they travel through, and making no negative impact.

To my shame, tomorrow I’m not following their excellent example. I’m off to Spain for a couple of weeks, to offer a hand to my daughter and her family as she returns to work after maternity leave following the birth of a second daughter. And I’m flying to Spain. I’m not pleased about this at all – but however we looked at it, the train journey was just beyond budget.

All my remaining posts for the month have been scheduled: I’m rubbish at posting from my phone – or at any rate in making links. What could possibly go wrong? Each one will be set in Spain, though from some previous visit. And I may be rather slow at responding to comments, or in reading posts from fellow-bloggers. Hasta pronto!

For Becky’s #SquaresRenew Challenge, she’s inviting us to post square – only square – photos on the themes of Burgeoning; Moving Forward; Reconstruction; or Renewal.

  1. Enjoy your journey and less of the guilt. You have family and need to visit as often as you can. Ordinary folk do not subsidise airline fuel and you are right, to go by train is crazy money, except when you get to Spain! Enjoy your stays. I must learn to do this scheduling.

    1. Scheduling as such isn’t difficult. It’s doing links to current blog posts that is the challenge. But even that ain’t too bad. Thanks for assuaging my guilt! Or trying to.

      1. and the old highway was not quite in the same place as it is now with a few creek crossings until bridges were built.
Can do it in a day by horse back. A neighbour once rode to town. The bicycle racers can get from town to here in about an hour or less

  2. Sometimes there is no alternative, and I think that’s okay. We can’t not ever fly, but as long as we make it the exception rather than the rule. I will be doing the same in the autumn as I plan to head to north america, and there’s no way round that one as ships are even worse.

      1. Everyone is contributing to a great series. There have been some fabulous posts. It’s a shame not to see them all – but as you know better than anyone – that’s a full time job!

  3. Gosh, back to work already. Doesn’t seem five minutes since she was born. I’m sure you’ll love the grandma duties, but I am so glad that I was able to stay at home when my kids were babies.

  4. A great post, Margaret

And have a lovely time in Spain. No guilt necessary. Just we need more affordable trains. I sailed around Japan on wonderful trains at a reasonable price – so efficient! (I try not to think about the long flights to get there)

  5. Needs must, Margaret. We can only ever do our best and your best is a great deal better than many. Enjoy your time in Spain with the family. Your help will be invaluable, I’m sure. Safe travels 😊

  7. I could go for miles and miles if I had one of those but I’m not good with horses, and how do you manage that in the Channel Tunnel? Have a great time, grandma! I know you will.

  8. A great way to travel I guess, but slow! Don’t feel bad about flying to Spain, you need to be with family sometimes. Although after all, I can talk, given how much we travel!

  9. Enjoy your stay. I‘m also ‚done‘ with flying but just yesterday we discussed trips to Portugal – we stay with friends who lived and worked in P. For many years…. By car? Forget it! By plane? We shouldn‘t – should we? And also our conscience is hollering in our ears: Youz don‘t have to do that – what for? Think of the environment …. (Yes, we hear you, loud and clear)
When it comes to family matters however, I‘m all for it – don‘t feel bad and make the best of your time with your beloved ones.
