19th Century, 18th Century, 21st Century

Here’s a view of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Hartlepool. In the background is HMS Trincomalee, built in Mumbai (Bombay then) just after the Napoleonic Wars. Then there is a row of Georgian buildings, now housing many of the museum’s displays. And in front of them is … the car park.

      1. Yeah, sadly I think you are right. Really hope there is a change this year – I have made sure I have found a way to stay on electoral roll whilst I am in between home – just in case the GE happens before the autumn

  1. I seem to have a lot of problems commenting these days, so I will try again. Sry, if you get the same comment twice.

How fun to capture the different centuries in one photo. HMS Trincomalee is quite impressive!

  2. Isn’t it interesting that the past stays with us, Margaret. Thank you for the links on HMS Trincomalee’s history. So many adventures and iterations over the decades!!

  3. Built in Bombay immediately after the Napoleonic wars? I’m pretty sure it was built by the Wadia family, one of the first Parsis to leave Gujarat for Bombay.
