Monday Portraits from a Sunday Walk

Nidderdale: the first day totally without rain in I can’t remember how long. Our walk was punctuated with encounters with animals, from Highland cattle who seemed to have strayed south, to llamas whose forebears were definitely immigrants, via horses and – of course, since it’s now officially spring -newborn lambs.

Monday Portrait.

      1. oh no 😦 we had it early morning but so far having a break from it today. A bitterly cold wind though out there, and the next band of rain due tomorrow. When will it stop?!

    1. This was with a couple of friends I haven’t walked with for ages. We couldn’t believe our luck. No mud to speak of either. Back to normal today. Rain.

  1. Quite a variety of animals! I love the llamas, they look a bit out of place in the UK. Even the highland cattle look a bit exotic – I assume the species is of Scottish origin?

    1. The Highland cattle are indeed from Scotland, but an increasingly common sight. As for llamas and alpacas … they seem to be in every other field these days. Who knows why?

      1. I quite like llamas in the UK, but it reminds me of the book Otherlands which discusses how influential we humans are on life on earth. The human species + all the animals we keep as pets / food sources / entertainment, now make up a high percentage of life on earth. Which is a bit sad.

      2. Very interesting book. Would have liked some illustrations ;-). It has led me to watch quite a few Youtube videos covering the different eras. I remember, you are not fond of Youtube, but there is great educational material to be found.

  2. Lovely. A bit of a stretch, but somehow the ewe had me in mind of 1960s models in short bohemian fleece coats showing off their bony knees!
