Spotted the other day in Swinton Park near Masham, through the spectral swirling leaves of an autumn afternoon, three woodland wraiths. Well, that’s what I thought they were, anyway.

Monday Portrait.

Not very happy to be photographed, by their expressions

Of course not. Wraiths don’t like that kind of thing.

They look kind of miserable. But … what do I know? Maybe they are quite happy chappies as far as trees go.

Wonderful photos, Margaret, which prompted me to do some research. Do trees have personalities? Here is some thoughts that came out of my search:
Trees do indeed have personalities. Just like humans, each tree has its own unique characteristics and traits that set it apart from others. These personalities can be observed through various aspects of the tree’s appearance and behavior. For example, the shape and size of the tree’s branches, the way it sways in the wind, and even the sound it makes when leaves rustle all contribute to its distinct personality. Additionally, the tree’s growth patterns and response to environmental factors further highlight its individuality. Overall, trees possess personalities that make them fascinating and diverse beings in the natural world.
I read “The Hidden Life of Tress by Peter Wohlleben – very interesting. So now I kow that there really are “Ents.”

I’ve read and enjoyed this book too. Even more fascinating, I found, was Tristan Gooley’s ‘How to Read a Tree’, which further explores, with both scientific and personal observation many of the same ideas. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

Ohh….the woodland wraiths are not happy, Margaret. They clearly aren’t interested in selfies, either. You’ve got a great eye to spot them!
