If you’re anything like me when you’re on holiday, buzzing with new sights, sounds, experiences – perhaps wrestling with the language – you need the break that a leisurely meal provides. It gives the chance to renew energy and to re-charge with the get-up-and-go needed for the rest of the day.
So let me take you to l’Albufera, near Valencia, home to the right kind of rice for paella. That’s a rice growing field – a little fallow in mid-winter – in the image above, and lunch in my all-important Square photo.

L’Albufera holds a special place in my heart, so tomorrow, for the last square of the month, I’ll take you there.

I love Valencian paella with the perfect rice.

what a treat to be taking to one of your favourite places, and I agree a long lunch is a great way to renew – Robert and I got them down to a fine art in Portugal.

I’ll bet you did. Well, you have to keep the local economy going, don’t you?

You’ve made some great contributions to this challenge, despite your very busy life. I love this one too, and will most certainly join you in Albufera tomorrow.

for me a walk down memory lane. long ago, met friends in Albufera (not our chosen location) and might well have had a paella. A wonderful meal with great friends. Come back safely, if you must! (come back)

I’m so glad your comment has come through. Several of yours went into Spam, and while I have unspammed them, I still can’t comment. I don’t know what’s going on. Thanks for wishing me a safe homeward journey. I don’t want to go home!

I’m always ready for a good meal! Unfortunately in some ways, doesn’t do my figure any good. But I’d rather be happy than diet!

Definitely. But I reckon you probably keep busy enough to get away with the odd big meal.

My early years were spent in Brazil. Even today, many years later my favourite dish is beans and rice, which has its origins in paella!!! You have the best adventures in eating, Margaret.
