A Monday Portrait of Joey

Here’s who we found on a visit to Thorp Perrow yesterday. A mother wallaby and her frisky and curious joey. He didn’t get out of the pouch while we were there, but we knew he was skittish, because when he was nowhere to be seen, his mum’s pouch rippled energetically as he rushed around within.

Good morning joey!
This is who s/he will grow up to look like.

Monday Portrait.

This post is dedicated to Brian of Bushboy’s World, because he has wallabies frollicking around in his back garden. Lucky Brian!

    1. Well, I had a season ticket which is just running out this week, so I suspect I may be having a longish break. Though the information board there says one of the funnier sights is watching a joey who is frankly now far too big for the pouch trying to wrestle his or her way back in!

  1. Some wallabies a long way from home. We don’t have them around, I don’t think, but we do have a lot of kangaroos. Great captures Margaret, that place looks incredible.

    1. As an arboretum, Thorp Perrow is lovely. Its wildlife park isn’t that amazing – just the wallabies and some meerkats – and a birds of prey centre. You might be interested to know that a while back, there were wallabies roaming wild for many years in a part of England called The Peak District: escapees, presumably. But they’re now thought to be extinct.
