Last on the Card: First Crocuses of Spring

Spotted in the graveyard of the village parish church . At last! The poor crocuses have been firmly shut and shivering against the cold, but on the last day of February, they dared to be a little bolder.

And I can’t resist showing you the shot just before that one. We were busy making Seville Orange Gin last week. Steep the peel and sugar in gin now, and it’ll be ready in time for Christmas, or preferably the one after that. Even better the one afer that …

  1. Love the Crocus Margaret. I think Gin smells and tastes like aftershave. Not for me but then again I don’t drink much
    Thanks for joining in 😀

    1. We’re not great tipplers either, but this is much smoother than ‘raw’ gin. And most of it in any case goes to our lovely neighbour, who can’t get enough of it!

  2. The gin looks good. I haven’t made alcohol since leaving Saudi happy to buy rather than make (same with bread). But the gin definitely looks good.

    1. I don’t think I ever saw a crocus in France. Is that a false memory? Because there were plenty of snowdrops (don’t you just love the French name for them?) and daffodils – though mainly of the wild kind, in the Pyrenees.

      1. I am hoping to have a holiday up your way at some point. You were going to give me some tips on the best places to base ourselves once you were back from Spain. No hurry. OH”s daughter is expecting in August, his first biological grandchild, so I suspect we’ll be going east this year. Probably September.

  3. Thank you for the hope of spring time. We are several weeks away from blooming flowers. The time change is this weekend and we fall back and take at least a week to adjust to more daylight in the evening! I do love a gin and tonic, but that sounds quite refreshing.
