For Becky’s Seven for September, and because I often post for Monday Portrait, I’m down at the local duckponds. Dedicated duck-and-geese-counters may notice the odd beak or rear-end tail feathers that don’t quite belong. Please ignore them. Unless they need after all to be included. Then please do not ignore.

Marvellous 😀 7 squares and 7 heads and tails in each – yes I ignored when I needed to!

How lovely, particularly as we’ve had so few to admire where I live. Usually several broods on the canal but only one this year. I’m wondering about bird ‘flu.

Sadly, it could be. In our case, or rsthert rhe ducks’ case, it’s geese. Now they’ve moved into the village, they finish off any babies the ducks manage to hatch. Luckily, the geese have at last moved on, and the very last brood of the year looks as if it may make it. They’re looking quite big already.

Glad to hear they’ve moved on. I fended off a magpie from a little one before its mother turned up, then there’s the foxes. So many predators.

I didn’t even try to count. That’s friendship for you! Some very cute guys and dames there.

Indeed. And some bossy geese.

You have to keep a stern eye on them, or be a good runner!

Awwwwwwwwwwww, so cute! Perfect way to start the week… looking at goslings and ducklings…

Geese not so cute. The demise of ducklings this year is almost entirely due to the adult geese. They’re not popular. Hissssss.

That’s definitely not good! Poor ducklings…

What is it about ducks that always brings a smile to my face. I love ’em. However many there are!

You’d like it here, Sandra. Huge rubbish lorries and lines of traffic come grinding to a respectful halt on the main road in the village whenever Mr And Mrs D and family set forth across.

As indeed they should. In the SE I know of several traffic signs warning of ducks crossing. Not here in the SW though 🦆

No traffic warnings here. Everyone knows to take care. Even pesky visitors!

I didn’t count as I am weaning off my counting OCD or at least trying to as this month is overload. Great gaggles and raft of ducks

A fair few of them eh? And all local.

Wow, those bird parents are very busy!

They are. The geese are more attentive, and though the ducks are ‘on the case’, they’re easily distracted.

Those downy babies are the cutest – but I love those adults in your header photo. They appear to be on a mission with such a determined walk!

They were being hassled by a sheepdog on duck duty!

I started counting and then thought, nah, why bother, Becky has given you a bye so that’s good enough for me. And such cute fluffy things too, though I am saddened by the demise of the ducklings by the geese.

I know. Ever since they – somewhat brutishly – moved in in such vast numbers, our duck and moorhen community has been somewhat displaced.
